Welcome to Chromepet Cultural Academy

Chromepet Cultural Academy was started in the year 1969, with a view to cater to the cultural needs of the citizens of Chromepet and the environs.
With the blessings of Kanchi Mahaperiyava, a plot was purchased in 1974. His Holiness Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal laid the foundation in 1975 for the construction of Kalai Arangam.
Our Academy was adjusted as the Best Sabha in Madras City belt area and we were awarded a shield and a Certificate of Merit by the Governor of Tamilnadu his Excellency Shri Prabhudas Patwari on 1977.
A stage measuring 40 feet x 40 feet with rooms, toilet, etc was declared open to the public on 1979 by Late Shri A.V. Meyyappa Chettiyar of A.V.M. Studios.
Our Academy celebrated Silver Jubilee in September 1994. A covered auditorium measuring 90 x 50 feet with tublar trusses / asbestos sheets was constructed and this was inaugurated by the industrialist Shri A.C. Vadivelu on 20th April, 1996.
Celebrations were conducted in the month of July as 2019 being our Golden Jubilee Year.

Our Academy was again adjusted as the best Sabha in the suburbs by the Mylapore Academy in the year 1996 and 2017. We were also adjusted as an outstanding Sabha for contribution of Tamil Fine Arts in the own auditorium for the year 2001, 2012 and 2024.
As of now we have conducted more than 15 Isai Natya Vizhas and 14 No. Nadaga Vizhas in our academy.
For the past eight years we are also presenting a memento and a cash award to the students who score the maximum mark in the Tenth and Twelth Examinations. We are also giving free note books to poor students. Besides, we used to conduct Talent Promotion Programs for the students below 15 years of age to encourage their skills in Carnatic Music, Light Music, Speech, Dance and Sloka recital.
We stage dramas every month by leading troupes. Also, Carnatic music recitals, light music concerts and Bharathanatyam are presented to public. Religious discourses by eminent scholars are held in our auditorium frequently.
Every year we are honoring with Service Awards to few veteran artists, who have contributed immensely in the field of Drama, during Nataka Vizha.
